NFC Vault : Secure Remote File Server Access

Secure Remote File Server Access enables employees, especially remote teams and field workers, to access company files from anywhere without compromising data security. Instead of relying on traditional VPNs or risky public file-sharing methods, this approach ensures files stored on on-premises or cloud-based servers are accessible through encrypted channels, user authentication, and role-based permissions. It combines ease of use with enterprise-grade security, offering centralized control over who can view, edit, or share files—helping businesses maintain productivity and compliance across distributed workforces

Remote Access to File Servers Without a VPN!

NFC Vault gives on-premise file servers new cloud access & secure file sharing and data protection capabilities while retaining the old security safeguards, permission controls, and data ownership!

Mobile and Remote Productivity Features

Do you want to make these features available to your remote workers?

Offline Editing

Offline Editing

A traditional VPN requires a stable and active connection to the corporate firewall to function. A disruption in the Internet or an interrupted connection to the firewall interrupts employees' work with unsaved files. With offline editing, remote workers can save and edit documents without an active connection and save the files asynchronously to a corporate file server once the connection is restored.

Offline Editing

Always On

A firewall vendor typically offers VPN without an always-on feature. Always-on VPN requires more infrastructure components such as identity servers, authentication servers, compatible clients OS, etc. However, most modern cloud applications are always-on, allowing offline access to files and folders and storing files on a local device before synchronizing them with online servers.

High Performance

Accessing file servers is hardly high-performance, because when a VPN serves as an enabler, file access is done via the SMB/CIFS protocol. First of all, the SMB protocol is not a data streaming protocol with many requests and responses. If we can switch to HTTP streaming for file transfer, performance will improve. Second, HTTP-based file transfer traffic can take advantage of a global content delivery network, so HTTP is faster for cross-continent transfer.

Mobile and Remote Access

NFC Vault makes your file server the focal point of collaboration and remote access to provide traveling sales teams, field engineers, and other remote workers with a user experience that doesn't change when leaving the office. And the increases in productivity are balanced by centralized management of access controls, file versioning, auditing, and reporting.

Access file shares remotely with natively mapped drives on Windows and Mac clients. Replicate the same experience on mobile devices and web browsers.

On-Demand Synchronization

Save bandwidth and storage by displaying directory structure but downloading files only when accessed.

Alternative to Dropbox & SharePoint

An ideal on-premises alternative that works directly with your file servers, no external dependency.

Increase Productivity

Access internal file shares from any location with a persistent mapped drive.

Simple VPN Alternative

Translate external file requests securely through Active Directory — no VPN required.

Enhanced Data Security

Access files over HTTPS/SSL securely without exposing your internal network.

Outlook integration

Turn shared files and attachments into weblinks and send them with Outlook, with expiration dates and other access controls. It's easy, efficient, and secure.

Co-Editing

NFC Vault integrates with Office 365 for web-based co-editing and co-authoring. Files stay on the file servers you own while leveraging Office 365's web editing capability for secure file sharing.

Large File Transfers

NFC Vault turns shared files and folders into web links that can be used to transfer large files with a simple user experience securely.

Auditing and Reporting

Keep track of all file changes, generate reports of who's sharing what with whom, and more.

Granular Folder Permissions

Leverage native NTFS permissions for the existing folder hierarchy. Manage permissions from the original file serve or within NFC Vault.

Simplify File Share Access

Easily share files with users who are not a part of your Active Directory. Simplify collaboration with file locking and version controls

Mapped Drive Power + Web Simplicity + VPN Security

NFC Vault is a web server that accepts file requests from client agents over the HTTPS/SSL protocol. These requests are then translated to Active Directory and File Server network share access protected by NTFS permissions. The file is sent back to the client agents over HTTPS/SSL when all permission checks have passed. NFC Vault uses this approach to combine the power of a mapped drive with the simplicity of web browsing and the security of a VPN!

Install NFC Vault Server
